Our Motto:

Chiri mo Tsumoreba Yama To Naru
Even dust amassed, turns into a mountain

A student may not be the most gifted physically or in comprehension, but if they continually show up at the dojo and train hard under the leadership of those teaching, that student will be transformed over time into a karateka the dojo can be proud of. It is not necessary to be the best or perfect at the start, it IS necessary to attend and train consistently regardless of how long a student has been training.

Aaaaannnnd, we're back!

For those we haven't seen yet, adult classes for students aged 13 and up (unless you have received permission from the black belts) began again on September 14, 2010.

Classes are running 7:00 - 8:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays

Monthly fees are $50 per month for all students.  New students should arrive at the dojo at least 15 minutes prior to class to sign a waiver.  All new students can try a few classes for free.

******************************************************

You may have gathered that we are no longer offering classes to students under the age of 13.  Unfortunately, this became necessary for several reasons: the departure of three of our younger instructors to attend college in September, continuing uncertainty regarding the future of KPAC, and increased liability insurance costs.  We wish Eileen, Steve, and Cole all the best in their new endeavors.

Homework!

I don't know if you have heard this, but studies have shown that it takes at least 10,000 hours to master anything.  That's a long time.  Sosai said it took 10,000 days of training.  That's a really long time!  Here's the thing - it takes a looooong time to even get to that 10,000 hours if you are only training at the dojo two days a week....  So, to help shorten the amount of time it will take you to get to your 10,000 hours (or days), we are giving everyone homework.  Each month will have a new homework assignment.  It could be questions from the Handbook, something you need to research, a kata to learn, or even a fitness goal to reach.  Yay!  Aren't the blackbelts a helpful bunch!

Note:  If you do not have a Handbook you need to ask Deb or another blackbelt for one!  If you haven't had one, they're free.  If you lost yours, they're $10.00.

Ok, so here is the homework which is due to be handed in by October 29.  Please pay attention!  There is different homework for the adults and the juniors.  Juniors may get bonus marks for doing the adult homework but adults will NOT get bonus marks for doing the junior homework :)  lol.  White belts (new students, you are white belts) do not have to do homework but it would be good for you.

Anyways, here it is:
Adults:    Please tell us what you need to know for your next level in point or paragraph form.  This should include kihon, kata, spirit (what facet of your personality is emphasized at your level), knowledge, and fitness (waza) requirements.  Remember you cannot just re-write the syllabus and need to include everything you need for your level, not just the 'new' stuff in the syllabus.

Juniors:  You must be able to do the following:
1.     Tell us who Sosai was.
2.     Tie your own belt!

Big Fun!  We look forward to seeing how you all do on your homework!

We're on the web!

Osu!  Well here we go with our first post on our dojo's blog.  This will be a great place to keep everyone up to date on what's happening around the dojo and our organization.  :)  If anyone has news they would like posted please just let Deb know at the desk or by phone.

First question on everyone's mind I am sure is "When does karate start again?

Our new schedule starts on September 15, 2009:
  • Junior I & Junior II Classes run 6:30 - 7:30 pm
We have NOT combined these classes even if they may salute in together.  One group will stay in the main dojo and the other group will go into our second training room.
  • Adult Classes run 7:30 - 9:00 pm
The adult class and the Junior II class no longer overlap.  Instead, because we are running both Junior classes at the same time, we will now simply invite those students making the transition to adult class to stay a half hour later or so.  The change in time should also make it easier for our younger students in our adult class as they won't be up quite so late.
  • Additional Training time 9:00 - 9:30 pm
Because we are done classes earlier, we will be scheduling the occasional extra half hour of class for specific groups of students/kyu ranks/yudansha.  This will ALWAYS be posted in advance and will be required training.  This will also be a great time to ask for extra help from your sempais!  We are here to help - just ask.

Next question may be, "Have fees changed?"
  • NO.  Our fees are the same.  $40 /month for Junior students and $50 /month for adult students.  Everyone, of course, must also pay the yearly Kyokushin membership fee ($20) and yearly KPAC membership fee ($10 or $15).
And, ok, maybe you weren't going to ask this but "Will you be at the community sign-up?"
  • YES.  We will be at the Community Sign-up at the Ken Borek Aquatic Centre on September 10, 2009, 5:00 - 8:00 pm.
  • NO, you do not have to sign up there if you are a returning student because we have held your spot for you :).  But you can come see us anyways if you like!
  • YES, we have room in our Junior I class (7-9 year olds)
 Some other things to know:

We have a surprise for students in the second training room.  Be sure to check it out!

We will still be looking for students to volunteer to help clean the dojo.  I know, we always are - but, we all train here and should share in taking care of it.

We will be needing adult students to help with the Junior classes! You only need to come one hour earlier than you normally would and teaching is a requirement for anyone at a blue belt or higher.  I know, I know you are a very busy person. Unfortunately, none of the black belts are going to be terribly impressed with any of your fine excuses considering the number of hours they have logged in while teaching you.  Just a thought....

If you have other questions you can:
  1. Phone the dojo and leave a message.
  2. E-mail the dojo at chujitsudojo@gmail.com
  3. Leave a comment on this blog.

ONE LAST THING....
(It will get bigger if you click on it)
